BRAINS WANTED.
SEARCHING INTO THE MIND
SCIENTIST’S BEQUEST
LONDON. May 15
'Professor G. Elliot Smith, a distinguished New South Welshman, who is anatomy professor at University College, London, has been studying the brain of an eminent scientist who died recently, and who secretly bequeathed hfs bruin for seeiutific research because he knew he possessed some peculiar psychological traits. He was unable to appreciate music and hud peculiarities in his power ol imagery. His thinking was not done as the result of seeing and hearing as with normal persons; consequently lie considered that it was scientifically worth while to examine his brain, so as to ascertain the cause of the mental differences. He was a brilliant man with a wonderful thinking capacity. Professor Smith believes that the discovery of influences of abnormality would help in tho understanding ol the meaning of the brain.
Such a bequest is rare, and the professor has heard of only three others. 'Hie investigation opens uu interesting line of research, hut without a large number of brains of distinguished men it would be difficult to expect definite results. Therefore, tiie professor would welcome further bequests in the interests of science and the development of the faculties of future generations. The brain of Mr Hughes and other remarkable Australians would be excellent aids to scientific research, it is suggested.
