MORE GROWN THAN SELLS
APPLE EXPORTERS LOSE
LONDON, May 11
Tlie chairman oi the Australasian section oi' the London Chamber ol Commerce, Air Tredwen, states that the result ol this season’s Australian apple export is disastrous. The average price for three shipments up to the end oi April was Gs lOd a case. The cost was from 8s to Ds a case after leaving the orchards. Apple growing is being overdone, says Mr Tredwen. A quarter of a million cases ol last season’s Australian canned fruits, and millions ol cases ol American are unsold, and these cannot be sold be lore the new Calilornian shipments arrive. Traders hold v'2OG tons ol sultanas, which is twice the average consumption, and before the new Smyrna shipments arrive in September there will bo a considerable drop in prices unless tiie Smyrna crop is small. -More truit is grown than the world can consume.
