DECLARED TO BE FRAUDULENT

NEW YORK, May 31.. A great sensation has been caused in art circles here by tbo cabled report from Paris that an important group of Gothic statuary and antiques in New York’s famous metropolitan museum, which contains one of the noted art collections of the world, is fraudulent.
This followed upon tbo controversy occurring in Paris, where it is related that a group of statuary in the Louvre is also declared to he spurious. The charges in both cases have been made by M. L. Cornellon, the French critic. Many millions of dollars were spent for the Metropolitan’s objects, which are now questioned. Such a noted world art critic as Sir, Joseph Duveeu has confirmed the charges, declaring that probably a fifth of .Metropolitans Gothic antiques wore doctored by French art fakers.
