PAINTER’S DILEMMA.
DISCARDED PICTURES SOLD. NO LEGAL REDRESS. LONDON, May 9. Despised and rejected canvasses of the celebrated painter Camsin have uniquely revenged themselves on their author. 31. Camsin discarded them in 1914, considering them unworthy of bis genius. He took the precaution to cut out pieces and he then threw the lot in the rubbish bin. A shrewd ragman collected the fragments and sold them to an amateur who pieced them together and gave them to some friends. M. Camsin heard of it, but did not take it seriously. Later be was indignant when his paintings came on the market and ■fetched considerable prices. Some bear his signature; others are obviously authentic. He lias found no legal means of redress. He thinks he discarded 40 pictures in all.
