HOCKEY NOTES.
(By “Shinty.”)
Kiwi Perrin, the Manawatu representative and All Black player, who now lives at Wellington, will this year play for Karori. Heaphy, another All Black, is included in the ranks of the Karori players. A stop towards popularising hockey in Wellington schools has been made by the formation of a Public Schools’ Association. The Manawatu Association has tried hard to popularise the game in local schools, whore it once ilourished, especially at the old Campbell Street School, and hopes to meet with success.
S. H. Shoveller’s retirement is a big blow to hockey in England, more especially because of his sparkling personality. Like “W.G.” at cricket and G. 0. Smith at Association football, “Shove” (says a writer) was the mas-ter-player, the champion, so to speak; the kind of player that is rarely seen nowadays in any sport. His forthcoming book will doubtless bo a fund of good reading.
