CIVIL SERVANTS’ WAGES.

In the Mouse of Commons, on the motion to go into Committee of Supply, ’Mr Millar (Liberal) moved that u select committee be appointed to inquire into the salaries of ex-temporary servants entering the civil service, lie said that Tuesday’s events ought to convince the Government of their obligation in the matter. Mr Jarrelt (National Liberal), in seconding the motion, protested against the attempt to make party capital out of the question. This elicited angry exclamations from the Labour benches. The Hon. S. Baldwin said that ho was satisfied there was a general desire tor an immediate inquiry. Mr MacDonald expressed the _ Labour Party’s satisfaction at Mr Baldwin’s announcement.
Mr Millar withdrew the motion on the Government’s assurance that they would refer the question to the existing committee on salaries,—A. and N.Z. cable.
