CORRESPONDENCE.

LEON DE MAUNY VIOLINIST.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Those who were present at the Do Mauny’s concert at the Opera House on Wednesday night must have gone home with a feeling of entire satisfaction, for it is some considerable time since Palmerston North has had a visit from two such finished and clever artists as De Manny and his clever wife. And now 1 hear that Mr De Manny contemplates visiting Palmerston North one day a week to give violin lessons, providing ho can obtain a snfiicicnt number of students. Chatting with him after the concert the other night he expressed surprise that wo hail no orchestra in this town, and made what 1 thought, was rather a good suggestion, namely, that on the evening of the day on which he visited here, those interested in orchestral work should meet him to discuss (ho possibility of forming a. small orchestra under his conductorship, such instruction and orchestral training that he was prepared to give costing only a nominal fee. it would scom'ii pity if we in this town were to let such an opportunity slip of improving our musical local talent by ignoring Mr Do Manny. 1 would therefore suggest that any who are interested in the possibility of the talented violinist visiting the town weekly should send in their names to me, and 1 will communicate with Mr Do Manny further in the matter. Thanking you for allowing mo space.— I am, etc.,

11. K. GUNTER
