PROTEST BY PROTESTANTS
LONDON, April 11. What i> described as a great I'role.slunt appeal against the proposed Royal visit to the I'ope uas made al a packed meeting in the Albert Hall, Lord Hisborough presiding. A resolution was passed: "Thai this great demonstration by loyal subjects of the Crown regards with serious apprehension and regret the announcement that the King and Queen of England are to visit the Pope, and respectfully and dutifully submits that as thi.- will be the source of gr.tt gnef to n-.ilhon." of Thciv Ljck ties' devoted subjects, the visit should be abandoned. It appeals to the Prime Minister to submit to the king the madvisabilitv of the visit and calls upon the Government immediately to withdraw the British Envoy to the Vatican, seeing thai diplomatic relations with the Pope are an infringement of uhe constitution and a grave menace to the welfare of this Protestant Kingdom."—A. and N.Z. cable.
