FOXTON NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Mr and Mrs C. Cronquest and their little son, late of Foxton, are leaving New Zealand next week for Nine Island (in the Cook group), where Mr Cronquest will take charge of the trading business of Mrs Cronquest s uncle, Mr Head. Mr and Mrs Cronquest's many friends will wish them prosperity and happiness in their new and somewhat isolated home.

Three rinks, representing the Foxton Club, visited Levin on Wednesday to play friendly games. The weather for the occasion was ideal and the visitors were very hospitably received, and had a most enjoyable time. The president of the Levin Club (Mr Brown) welcomed the visitors and expressed pleasure at Foxton Club having returned their visit before the close of the present season. At the conclusion of play Mr Christie (president of the Foxton Club) thanked the home club for the enjoyable afternoon. The following are the results of play: Brown 22 v. Christie 17; Harris 24 v. Ross 12; Hawke 20 v. Smith 21.

A particularly pleasing compliment was paid to the retiring secretary of the Foxton Racing Club at the Bulls racecourse on Wednesday afternoon, when Mr L. R. Freeman was presented with a handsome pair of suitably engraved sporting binoculars by the secretaries of the adjacent racing clubs and the handicapper, judge and starter of the local club. Mr J. E. Henrys made the presentation and his remark's were endorsed by Messrs W. Bull, Arthur Way, E. Goodbehere and 11. A. Goodall. Mr Freeman suitably acknowledged the gift. Advantage was taken of the occasion to introduco to all present Mr ■D. R. Ogilvy, the newly-appointed secretary of the Foxton Racing Club. Visitors to Foxton yesterday were Mr J. E. Mudford and his son, Mr H. Mudford, of Dargaville. Mr Mudford, senr., was one of the first settlers in the Douglas Block, Rongotea district, about 40 odd yews ago. Mr Mudford for some years was engaged in the flaxmilling industry. He is now farming at Mangawhare, Dargaville. Mr Townsend, of the Te Aro (Wellington) branch of the Bank of Now Zealand, has been transferred to the local branch and took up his duties 'this week. The local Tennis Club tendered a valedictory social to four of its members in the Masonic Hall on Thursday evening, namaly, Miss Woodruffe and Mr McDonnell, of the local State school teaching staff, and Messrs Fergie and Frankland. The president of the club (Mr C. Simmons) expressed regret at their departure and conveyed the best wishes of the club to them. Mr Hornblow, on behalf of the school committee, spoke in a similar strain in reference to the two departing teachers, and paid a doserving tribute to the faithful way they had discharged their duties. Vocal items, interspersed with dancing, were contributed and a most enjoyable evening was spent by all present.
