AQUATIC CARNIVAL.
AN ATTRACTIVE PROGRAMME. Despite the uninviting nature of the evening the accommodation at the municipal baths was taxed to its utmost last night on the occasion of the grand gala conducted by the Manawatu Centre of the N.Z.A.S.A., in conjunction with the Palmerston North Swimming Club. The programme was of a diversified nature and the racing events provided some exciting finishes. The low temperature of the water accounted in big measure for several of the competitors restricting their . programme, but the times recorded, were, despite this handicap, of a very high standard. At the conclusion of the programme Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., in the absence of Mr 11. L. Young, president, thanked those present for the support they had accorded the carnival and stated that it was self evident that two matters were in need of attention—covering in the structure and the conversion into tepid baths. Ho pointed cut that, in the near future, a Mayoral election would be held and it would provide the many supporters of aquatics with an opportunity to press their needs in this direction. Judging by the support accorded the carnival swimming was undoubtedly popular and facilities should certainly bo provided. Cr. Lancaster was also present.
