LOAN OF £15,000.
TO THE EDITOB. Sir,—l trust your paper does not go far outside of Palmerston North as I should be sorry for any of my outside friends to see the report of our council meeting on Monday evening after the vote on the £15,000 loan, as it was mostly more like the' talk of a lot of silly school children at play than of grown-up men, one or two taking’ the sulks and saying “I won’t play if you won’t play my way.” What was the’ idea of taking a vote if we were not to bo allowed to vote according to our opinions and our purses. I quite approve of the town supplying good amusements for the children, hut grown-up men mid women should pay for then- own sport without asking the public to help thein. If the loan had been carried would it have •supplied amusements for all classes? What about the shooting men, etc.? How would ir, bo for Mr Nash to get a free grant from the Government to supply all classes with amusements. As we aio staggering tinder Our load at present and (lie majority have not more than enough to live on, we should be content with the necessary expenditure, and if we look along our streets we will see plenty of room for imvrov,me „t-I etc,.
