ALLEGED MANSLAUGHTER.
CHARGE AGAINST MOTORIST
At the Police Court this morning, before Messrs G. H. Bennett and W. F. Durward, J’s.P., Hugh W. McKintosh was charged that, on June 10, at Shannon, he did commit manslaughter by causing the death of William Davidson, the latter having died from injuries received in a collision between a motor car and a trap on the date in question. Accused was represented by Mr Ongley and pleaded not guilty. Alfred Penketh, of Palmerston North, gave evidence of a formal nature in connection with the identity of deceased. Dr. Putnam deposed that the causa of death in respect to deceased was a severe injury to the brain. A. J. Graham, district coroner, gave fofmal evidence in connection with the inquest touching , the death of William Davidson. ■ Robert Edwards, Palmerston North, said he h,ad made a plan of the locality of the accident, drawn to scale, showing the scene of the collision. Witness produced the map, which showed that the distance from the alleged spot to the deck of the bridge was 98 yards. There was grass on either side of the road, but nothing to obstruct the view of a driver, (Left sitting.)
