REPLIES BY MINISTERS,
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 7. Tbo Minister of Public Health in-* formed Dr. Thacker iti the House oi Representatives to-day that no, Public Health Act Amendment was proposed to be brought down this session. Ho did not see any necessity to set up a Royal Commission to inquire into tuberculosis and venereal disease in Now Zealand, as he considered the existing Board of Health was quite competent to deal with the subject as well as being more economical. The Postmaster-General stated in reply to a question that a report by the telegraph engineer on the question of telephone services and charges had been made. He said the matter was under departmental consideration, but ho could not yet give an indication as to what the new charges would be beyond the lact that they would bo more equitably divided among users of the service.
Mr Massey, Minister of Finance, informed Mr Masters that the limit of £SOOO on loans to local bodies from the State Advances Department could, not be raised at present to the old figure of £IO,OOO, as there was a great run on the department’s fund. There were other Government lending departments that could probably bo induced to meet the needs of local bodies.
