SHANNON NOTES.

(From our own Correspondent). Mrs Wilson Balfour, of Lyttclton, is paying a visit to Mrs C. VjC. Franks._ liu' Shannon Dairy I onipany is advancing Is 5d for butter-fa! for last month, and is distributing one half-penny per lb bonus for butter-fat delivered over die whole of last year. This bonus brings last year's total up to 2s 9id. A party of Shannon farmers paid a visit to the Central Development Farm last Wednesday. Headers of these notes will be sorry to hear that Mrs 11. A. Hyde, of Auckland. mother of Mr A. F. Hyde, of Shannon, and Mr Norman Hyde, of Huntorville, lias passed away. The deepest sympathy will he felt for the bereaved family in their great loss. The gatekeepor at the Recreation Grounds had some difficulty last Saturday in collecting' the shilling entrance fee from some people who wauled to enter, ami the assistance of the police had to bo sought. The sum asked for is only small and the Shannon Football Club is very much in need of funds, so that it seems rather mean on the part of those who tried to force their way in. both through the gate aria over the hedge. A strong committee of the Venerable Bede's Church has arrangements well in hand to hold a series ol euchre parties, followed by dances, in the Parish Flail during the winter months. These social gatherings will be held fortnightly, and after each competition a trophy will he presented to thn winner, while a points prize will bo presented at the end of the season. The Shannon Coif Club opened its 1922 season last Saturday, and a very enjoyable afternoon was spent. Toe chief event of the day was an approaching competition under sealed handicaps, and the following results were recorded: —Mrs Johnston Ist, Mr A. Saxon 2nd ami Mrs Saxou 3rd. Already several trophies have been offered, and the competition for these will bo announced and played off from time to time. The first medal match will take place on June 3rd ami following that will be a series of matches right through the season. A meeting of 'he Shannon Football Club was held on Thursday evening.. Present: Mr Murdoch, president (in the chair). Mr T. Moynihau (treasurer), Mr A. Burr (secretary) and fourteen members. Owing to the books of the club haying been destroyed by fire, the minutes of the previous meeting were unable to be read. The resignation of Mr A. Burr as secretary was accepted with regret, ami Mr T. !!..!. Mason was appointed in his stead. Offers of medals for the senior and junior trams were received from Air McDonald and Mr Mason and were accepted by the club with thanks, 'the treasurer reported a credit balance of £5 12s lOd in hand from last •\ ea i'. At 10 o'clock the other night Constables McGregor and Shannon arrested n man mimed Joseph Daniel Boyle on the railway station for using obscene language in a public place.' The accused later appeared before Messrs Spencer and Cunning. J.'sP., when he pleaded guilty and was lined £lO, or three months' imprisonment. The Bench, in inflicting this heavy line, remarked on the amount of obscene language being used in public places, and expressed the opinion that this class of offence should bo more strictly deall with The improvement shown by some of the players at the opening of the Coif Club last' Saturday was an indication that this season Shannon should be able to nick a team that should do teal good service on its behalf.
