SYDNEY'S UNEMPLOYED.
BUSINESS MEN'S HELP. SYDNEY, May 19. A representative meeting of business men pledged themselves to take immediate action to secure regular employment for nil fit returned .soldiers and fitting work for maimed men. They appointed tt working committee and subscribed £IOOO to provide sustenance for needy soldiers while employment was being secured. The Lord Mayor promptly suppressed an attempt to utilise the meeting for political put-poses.—-Press Associat ion. ACTION BY GOVERNMENT. PREFERENCE TO SOLDIERS. Received Mav 20, 11.45 a.m. SYDNEY, .May 20. The Lord Mayor has announced that owing to prompt action by the Government the problem of the unemployed has been practically solved. The City Council is absorbing a number of men and the suburban councils are employing residents in their own districts. Where practicable soldiers are given prei'efence in employment, and then married men, and single men last.— Press Association. DISABLED MEN IN BRITAIN. LONDON, May 13. The Government has appointed a Parliamentary committee io report upon the systems adopted by other countries to provide employment for disabled exservice men.—A. and N.Z. cable.
