The death occurred at Ashburton yesterday at the age of 78 years of Mr Frederick Mainwnring, who had been clerk' to the Ashburton County Council since its constitution in 1878.

The following appointments wore confirmed by the Wanganui Education Board this week-.—Queen’s Park, Wanganui, Air C. H. Warden, head teacher; Bulls D.H.S., Air P. G. .Lewis, head teacher; Maugaweka, Air E. G. Kibblewhite, head teacher; Alo.-s----ton, Aliss W. Inder, infant mistress; Parewanui, Air Al. M. M.unro, sole teacher.

Messrs V. (1. Day. 8.M., E. A. Campbell and G. Kendell. members of the. Assessment Court, left Palmerston North tins afternoon for Wellington on their way to the South Island, their next sitting being at Westport. Mr F. K. Tucker, of the Government Valuation Department, accompanies the Court as secretary. It is understood that Mr A. 0. Baehler, headmaster of the West End School, has been appointed to succeed Mr F. Fairbrother as headmaster of the Terrace raid School.
