PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY.

ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of the Palmerston North Philharmonic Society was held last evening, the president (Mr J. A. Nash, M.P.) presiding over a large attendance of members.

In moving ihe adoption of the report and balance-sheet, Mr Nash said that the society's income showed a pleasing- increase over thai of the previous year. He thought the concerts promoted by the society might be more whole-heartedly supported by the public, since the amount of time and labour entailed in their preparation warranted a greater financial return than was evidenced in the balance-sheet. Ho spoke highly of the services performed gratuitously by the choir's capable conductor, Mr .J. Holmes Ruimicles. who had worked really hard to make the concerts the enjoyable entertainments that they undoubtedly wete. The society had also proved useful in helping the Willaid Home, by means of a benefit concert. In this manner the organisation could be made a very useful body, since there were always deserving objects to assist, and as the society increased its scope of work much more could be done in this connection. The concert in aid of the Willaid Home had been given in conjunction with the Orpheus Society, and both bodies were to be congratulated on the success attained. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. for the ensuing year Ihe following officers were elected: Patron, Air J. A. Nash, M.P.; president, Mr A. Mammy; vicepresidents, Dr. Forrest, .Messrs Hugh Akers, ,). Wallace, F. L. Broad, J, Linklater, R. Davis and Airs V. J. Nathan; general business director. Mr J. I!.
