A meeting of retailers of Palmerston Xortli was hold lids morning to make arrangements for I Ik* holding of (ho Kant or holidays. There was a. large and represontalive meeting, and Mr das. Wallace was elected to the chair.
The chairman said that the meeting had to decide whether the retailers close on Raster Saturday or not. Past Raster they had iieen compelled to close on that day. Saturday was a good trading day. • Mr 0. IT liemiett said they should dote on (food Friday and Raster Monday only. It would he a very foolish thing to abandon. Saturday. Their stalls wore given liberal holicfays and lie did not see that they should forego one of (he Ivest trading days in the year. The closing would he purely for the assistants’ heuefll. ~He moved that on Raster Saturday the sWps he kept open. Mr 11. C.. Xiclmlls seconded the motion.
Mr A. R. Westmoreland was of the opinion that one hour on (Saturday was worth two of any oilier day. Mr ,). 11. Wild said that the" cycle agents had decided to., c;'lose on Raster Saturday, lull had later decided to call another meeting to discuss the subject. The motion was carried unanimously and (he chairman expressed Ids pleasure at the decision, especially coining from such a cling, which he thought was one ol IJic largest of retailers held here, ,
