The State Department announces that the United States Government will have neither ollicial nor nnollicial representation tit the Near East: Confbreiice in Paris. The United States, however, will be kept closely inlormod by her Ambassador at Paris regarding ail the steps taken at the conference. The same course will he pursued respecting the Genoa Conference, the Ambassador at Rome reporting on the developments. It is understood that President Harding believes that American interests will be seriously hampered by the fact that the United States will not be represented on the Reparations Commission and hopes that Congress will authorise such representation.—A. and N.Z. cable. NEAR EASTERN QUESTIONS. DIFFERENT POINTS OF VIEW. Received .March 23, 9.20 a.m. PARIS, March 22. Tlte Near East Conference lias opened at the Qinti d’Orsay. Broadly speaking, the French desire the remodelling of the Sevres Treaty, the withdrawal of the Greeks from Asia Minor, and the restoration of sufficient territory in Thrace to enable Turkey to properly protect Constantinople. France also regards the Angora Government its more representative of the- real Turkish aspirations. The British view inclines in favour ol the Greeks, who desire to have the Bouillon Treaty repudiated. In view of M. Poincare's adverse criticism of the treaty last year, lit l may agree to some modification. —A. and N.Z. cable. GERMANS TO ATTEND AT GENOA. Received March 23, 9.20 a.m. PARIS, March 22. » A telegram from Berlin states that Herr Witch does not intend to attend the Genoa Conference unless M. Poincare and Mr Lloyd George take part.
