HIGH SCHOOLS’ ANNUAL MATCH
The annual cricket match between the ’High Schools of Palmerston North and Napier was played on Wednesday and Thursday last at Napier, and resulted in a win for the Palmerston team by the very narrow margin of two runs. Ihe first innings of the winners was a good one, realising 233 runs. Ihe Napier howling was excellent, and accounted for seven wickets with the score only 68. Kells was howled with the first hall ot the contest. Aim aml Saywell saved the position, their partnership raising the score to 145, at which point Aim was caught (38). GalUrban and Saywell made a line Maud, the former scoring 25 runs, whilst the latlei carried his bat for 88. This < partnership was the finest of the match. The Palmerston team went to pieces in the second innings and made only 71 runs. Level) wickets were down tor 31, when tier and Bennett slopped the rot. and doubled the score. Napier’s first innings produced 154 runs, hi the second the fall of the'wicmTs was 2 for 50, 3 for 72. 7 for 102. Ihe score mounted slowlv till 148 was reaehedtliree wickets to fall, turn inns to draw, and three to win—when Bropliy clean howled Biekley. The last two men made no advancement on 148, one wicket lulling from a line left-hand catch by Bennett. The Palmerston team undoubtedly won the match through their fielding which was brilliant.
