QUANTITY- OF FLAX DESTROYED
The largest lire that has occurred on a, ship in Wellington since the sensational outbreak on the Turakma took place last night on the British India ) Company’s llatipara, which is lying at the King’s Wharf. The alarm was given at 940 the lire being conl’med to the lower ’tween deck, in which were stored some 600 bales of flax loaded at Wellington. An Indian quartermaster. Abdul Kaiiii, noticed smoke coming from the hold, and immediately informed the chief ofhcei, who dispatched J Cadet J. Hopkins to give the alarm at the box at the "half comet. The brigade, who were on the scene within four minutes, set to work with three leads, first of all pouring water down Z ventilators. The hatches were raised, and huge volumes of smoke belched foith.
