ENGINEER’S DISPUTE.
FAILURE OF CONFERENCE. MILLION MEN MAY BE LOCKED OUT. Received March 10. 8 it.in. LONDON, March 8. During the Engineers’ Conlerenee the Union representatives made it plain that they were determined that any restruetions which they had been able to impose in connection with the management during the war should he maintained. The employers replied that the men’s proposals Avert* diametrically opposed to their memorandum ol November 18, 1921, and that they were ttnahle to accept them. After the conference, Mr Brownlie issued a statement, in which he said the Union had submitted proposals which, he believed, had tillered the basis of a settlement, hut tin* employers, niter due consideration, rejected them. Failing further intervention nr negotiations, one million men will he looked out on Saturday as the result of the breakdown of the conference.—A. and N.Z, cable.
