AUSTRALIA'S CAPITAL.
PROGRKSS OF CANBERRA. TRANSFER IN TIIRI'.K VKAIiS. SYDNEY, Jan. 5. It is expected Lluil at the present rate ol progress of the constnictioit ol tho Federal capital at Canberra, the Australian Parliament will be installed there bv 19'25. The present activity is due, (,) the work ol the Advisory Committee, a body of experts which is advising the .Ministry as to the most efficient means by which the capital may be transferred to Canberra on the basis of the plan prepared by Mr \Y. 15. Griilin. the architect, whose design lor the capital won in ;i world-wide competition. Tl„- plan provides for three stages, the first ol which will be completed within three years, by which time it will be possible for the Parliament and the nucleus of the central administration ol the Commonwealth Government to be established in the territory. The first sta<"e contemplates a population o 6000. Although the building which will first house the legislators is described as a temporary Parliament Mouse, it will be more pretentious and comfortable than any other Parliament House in Australia. I'he nrospect of the transfer ol the capital "to Canberra has brought lorth much opposition from the press ot Melbourne, which has lor so long enjoyed the prestige and the advantage of being the centre of Commonwealth admiuistiation.
