At Waipukurau on Friday las! the death occurred of a well-known and respected resident in t?ie person of Mr Alexander Jones. Deceased, who was o'l years of age. arrived in Waipukurau from Scotland, with his. wife and family of four children, in May. 1865. having been engaged by the late Don. 11. R. Russell to take charge of a blacksmithing business in Waipukurau. As time wen on he acquired the business and enlarged the premises, and went in for manufacturing agricultural implements, and at thai time was the largesi manufacturer between Napier and Palmerston North, lie was a prominent and successful exhibitor at the llawke's |!ay Show, winning the 25guinea cup three years in succession for the best collection of implements, besides many silver medals and first-prize certificates. Mr Jones, with his two sous, carried on business in Waipukurau for inaiiv years. lie was at one time chairman of the Waipukurau Road Board. lie leaves a fanu.v of two son,', and live daughters.
