Lovo to you all.” Thus wrote the engineer, Krnest Coates, who, with his wile, daughter, and stepson, was found poisoned in a cottage iu Slreatham, in a farewell letter to his hrother Albert. ll was read at the inquest, at which the jury returned the verdict that Coates murdered his wile, step-daughter and stepson by poisoning them, and committed lelo de se. Kvidonce was given that the husband was worried about linancial matters, lie left a will directing the payment of his debts and cremation expenses. The husband and wife were spiritualists. The occupant of the upper floor of the cottage gave evidence that she received a letter from i\lrs Coates asking her to attend to the birds and dogs and the garden. The letter added:— “’When yon receive this we will all have gone from this mortal lile into the life beyond.” Coates told her that his stepdaughter. Daisy Townsend, tried to commit suicide, with a. revolver on the anniversary of her wedding day.
