Right through the war period the fa us contralto was tireless in her energies to assist in funds for the numerous needful organisations, and in recognition of her position in the musical world and her patriotic efforts •vas decorated Dame of the Order of ihe British Empire. In the early years of the war Mr Rumford was on the Western front and was later transferred lo the Intelligence Department a! the War Office.
