HOLIDAY ATTRACTIONS.

A VARIED FARE. PALMERSTON WELL PROVIDED FOR Palniersion North will nol luck holiday attractions? during Christinas and New Year week. What is more, there is every indication ihat the district will be treated to ;i further instalment of to-day's glorious sunshine. Already the town is crowded with visitors, mostly from the country districts, and with the exception of the shops I'almei'simi's observance of the holiday bus commenced. Chief among the attractions will be the Alanawut u Racing Club's summer meeting, in be held on Monday, Tuesday mid Thursday. Thanks to the recent improvements the course is now one of the best appointed in the Dominion, and given line weather there should be a big influx of visitors to Awupuni. Much interest is also centred on the big light to be decided in the Opera House on Monday under the auspices of the Mann. watu Boxing Association. The contestants are l.es Murray and Hughie Dwyer, who are matched fui' u purse of £IOO and ex-

penses. The Mauauatu Golf Clubs' three days' tournament will commence on Wednesday of next week, and on the same day the I'alnierston North Gun Club will hold a £IOO clay bird handicap and sweepstakes on the club's grounds, Boundary Road Last. Friday and Saturday, December 30 and 31, will* sec a representative cricket match on the Sport aground between Manawatu and Nelson, while on New dear's Day the local representatives will meet Southern llawke's Hay in a two days' contest. The Mirton races a two-days' meetingwill commence on New Year's Day, ami on the same day a start will be made with ihe Wellington provincial tennis championships, which will be held at Pah'nerston North. The tournament will last three days. In ihe line of indoor amusement the principal attraction during the holidays will lie the concert to be given in the Opera House on the evening of New Year's Day by the renowned duo. Dame Clara Butt and Mr Kennerly Rumford, assisted by Mclsa, a Polish violinist ol note, and Miss Grace Torrens. the well-known composer-pianist.
