KAIRANGA MAIL SERVICE.
PRESENTATION TO MU DAYEV. Mr S. Davey, who Ini' for tlit* last 25 years carried the mails between Palmerston North and Kaininga, relinquishes his position at the end of the year. llis services to the residents of Kairanga were eulogised by Mr I’alsillie at a social evening held in ids honour lasi Friday evening. In presenting him with a . valuable gold watch appropriately inscribed, Mr Palsillie detailed the method of obtaining the first mail service to Kairanga. lie slated that the largo and representative attendance that evening evidenced the high esteem in which their guest was held by the people of the district. Mr llalstllie wished Mr Davey the best of health and happiness during Ins future years. The postmaster (Mr Martin) referred to their guest’s unfailing courtesy and obliging nature, and slated that those whom In* served regretted his intention to relinquish the position. Messrs Malheison, 1 ,'upp, Coilis and Small also spoke in laudatory terms of Mr Davey, who thanked the residents for their appreciation of his work, lie made reference to the good feelings which had at till times existed between himself and the local postmaster and the residents general*j. “For He’s a dolly Good Fellow'’ was then sung. The following contributed to a musical programme, wbk.h was rendeaxul (between dances; Songs, Misses Few and Daly, Messrs Toby Pratt and M. Daly; recital ions, Mr (). j'urnieistcr and Miss ’leale; dialogues, Misses Small and Gap)): piano duet, Misses Small ami Levy; minuet, Misses Pratt and Miss M. Smail. Supper was served and dancing was kept up till 12 o clock.
