ALL SAINTS’ CHURCH.
PARISH -SOCIAL. <
A very enjoyable social was held in the schoolroom of All Saints’ Church last evening, this being the first of a series which it is proposed to hold lor the purpose of bringing the people ot the parish into closer touch with each other, and to promote good fellowship. Incidentally, at last night’s entertainment. opportunity was taken to bid farewell to the Rev: S. Watson and to welcome the Rev. K. J. McFarland, vicar of Mangaweka, with whom Mr Watson is exchanging parishes. The social was opened by the vicar ol All Saints’ (the Rev. H. G. lilackburne), who said it was hoped that this gathering would be the first of many equally enjoyable socials, bringing the parishioners together as one big family. It was recognised that in so largo a parish it was diHicij.lt to got members of the church acquainted with one another, and the socials had been inaugurated as a means to that end. In bidding farewell to the Rev. S. Watson, the vicar said that though Mr Watson had been with them for only a short while his conscientious work and genial character had made him very popular, and he would leave with all the best wishes of the congregation lor his success in his future field, and with their congratulations on his approaching marriage. In welcoming the Rev, K. J. McFarland, Mr Ulackburnc said that his good work, especially among the younger members of the church, was well known, and he hoped he would find his life in Palmerston North as curate of All Saints’ a very happy one. The evening was spent in enjoying various games and competitions, and a number of vocal and instrumental items and amusing stump speeches added to the pleasure of the large gathering. Songs were contributed by Misses Blocklcy and Ricketts, Mrs Hannay, Rev. 11. G. Blackbiinie and Mr Kissling, while Mr Morgan gave some excellent recitations. The competitions were promoted by Mrs Kissling, Sister Honi and Messrs Kissling and H. Kay. A plenteous supper was provided at the conclusion of the entertainment, and the organisers and helpers deserve all credit for a most successful evening’s entertainment. (
