GOLDEN WEDDING.

A very interesting event took placo on Tuesday, tho sth inst., at the residence of Mr and Mrs W. D. Squire, -of Roberts Line, Bunnvthorpe. when they had the pleasure of celebrating their golden weddinsr, surrounded by a large gathering of children, ; grand-children and great grandchildren, the four generations being represented. Mr and Mrs Squire wero married at tho Liverpool road Methodist Church,, London, on April sth, 1871, by the Rev. John (Walton'and set sail for New Zealand by the .good ship "Avalanche, ' arriving in WelliwHon in 1375. Deciding not to remain; there but to try their luck in the Mana.v,atu, mostlv thru virgin bush, they came, on to Foxton and thence to tho hrmlct in the bush named Palmerston North by the old wooden tram, then partly under- water. On making their home there Mr Squire started at his trade m joinery with the late Mr F. W. Venn, of Main street, eventually becoming a partner m the business-. The partnership wasdis- 1 solved on. Mr Squire acquiring a business in Wbodville, which he carried on for four vows and then disposed of it to the late Mr F. H. Burbush. He returned to Palmerst'on North and took over the business in M'ain street from Mr Venn, which he successfully carried on for ten years, after whicft ho disposed of it to the Tip of Bennett and Sollitt and retire* into tho country. Tho family consists of one son. Mr W. If. .1. Squire, of Now Plvmou h, and 'eight daughters,, Mrs W. F Ellis (Wanganui), Mrs J. W. Olovelv and Mrs G M. Ranson (Bunnythorpe), Mrs J. Law mawera). Mrs A. J. Carson_ (Palmerston North), Mrs C. Haydon (Okoire), Mrs \\. .T Lee (North Auckland), and Miss Marion Squire; twenty-eight grand-children and one (treat Errand-child. A sumptuous spread was provided to which justice was done, and 'the usual toasts wero given and honoured The Mntmvatu may well be proud of two such sterling colonists, and the wish is mwxk\ that thev may bo lomr spared to enjoy: good health and prosperity.-
