OROUA COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of,, the Oroug Comity Council was held yesterday, the following being present Councillors \V. G. Pearce (chairman), J. 11. Vincent, W. Circenhow. O. McElroy, W, McLennan and J. Morrison. CORRESPONDENCE. From the chairman (Cr Hugh Burrell), (hanking the Council lor granting him leave of absence in lien of accenting his rcsignalion, and stating ihat he hoped to he back at the Council table at the expiration of his leave.—Ru' ivod. From (ho Wnimari County Council, forwarding resolution suggesting that hospital hoards be given power to borrow money for permanent buildings, and the Government subsidy he granted on all moneys so raised.—Supported. From the Bank of New Zealand, notifying increase of rate of interest on overdrafts to 6 per cent.—Received. From the Manawatu County Council, drawing attention to the alarming increase in motor-ear accidents and suggesting that all (hirers of motors he licensed. —Support granted. From the district health oflicer, forwarding extract from N.Z. Gazette notifying alterations in Public Health Act.—Received. | From the Wanganui Education Board, forwarding circular dealing with education of children in sparsely populated districts. — Received. i From the Department of Commerce and Industries, authorising Council to deal with applications for permission to erect dwellings and essential farm buildings within the county.—Received. 'J he clerk, who had already bemi issuing permits, asked that someone he appointed to deal with those received- in the future.—Resolved that the engineer be empowered to do so. From F. A. Edwards, offering to act as ranger in the county,—Received. From E. (,’. Lankshenr, suggesting that some of tho unform'd roads bo fenced off and used for. accommodation paddocks for county workmen's horses.—Left in the hands of the chairman and the engineer. From A. J. Ahhiss, offering to supply teams and horses if Council would put road through to his properly.—Received, j From the Rangitikei County Council, asking Council to erect holding-yard at end |of Onepnhi bridge, to better regulate the | driving of stock across (he bridge.—Left in j the hands of Councillor Morrison and tho j engineers of both counties to deal with. I From John Powers, asking 'Council to aHix county sea! of transfer of land from Pleasants Bros, to Council, which is now a public road —Agreed to. From the Under-Secretary, Public Works, exempting roads or streets from the provisions of section 117 of Public Works Act, 1908. —R(*eei\ ed.
