ASSISTANCE ASKED FOR. (Special to “Standard.") WELLINGTON. August 12. Mr J. A. Nash, ALP., introduced a deputation this morning, consisting of Messrs Mitchell, Ri’dpath, and Andrews, representing tho Wuipatiki oil wells, to the Prime \lnlister. ■ The deputation pointed out/ that owners had now bored 3560 feet and the prospects were,most excellent. They asked that a subsidy should be granted, and that (m otlicor from the Geological Department bo sent to make an inspection. Tho Prime Minister said he would send a „ officer, and upon receipt of his report would consider the question of a subsidy. He also pointed out that the Government would be most willing to assist if it was satisfied that oil will bo obtainable Mr A. ■ McNicol, ALP. (Pahiatua), also urged that act ion be taken.
