NEXT YFAILS GATHERING
The aims and value of the Science Congress to lie held in Palmerston North early next year wore laid before a meeting of the Borough Council last night bv Mr If. Seifert in soliciting financial assistance in regard to the pi eject from the Council. Mr Seifert stated that visitors would he present not only from all parts ol New Zealand. biit also from Australia, and it \vji>; proposed to issue, a booklet dealing with the prosperity of Palmerston North and district. stated, would lie heavy, but it was desirable that the town should not bo behiml-haild in ’hospitality and in the extent of the arrangements. Li reply, the Mayor said that the funds operative on under unauthorised expenditure had been drained to dregs, and moreover the Council was not in a position at present to pass a vote. Crabh observed that a sum bad been placed on the estimates for the issue of a brochure by the Council similar to that proposed by the Science Institute. If that was done it would relieve the Congress promoters or a great deal of expense.
