RONGOTEA.

(From Oob Own Cobhespokdent.) SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Rongotei School Committee was held on Monday, August 2nd. Present: Messrs Yen-all '(chairman), Taylor, Callander (secretary), and Mr P. Kime (head teacher). The headmaster's report was read as follows:— During-the month of July 5 pupils were admitted and 8 were withdrawn, the roll number at the end of the month being 137 The average attendance for the month was only 107 or 73 per cent, of the average roll. This was due chiefly to the prevalence) of mumps:. During the winter holidays tne lire places were put in older. Owing to no notification of the postponement of the inspectors' conference having been received the school had to be closed for two days Mislead of one at, the beginning of July. I have received advice from the Education Hoard that the spring holidays for this school are to begin on the 13th September instead of tho Dili as the annual examination is to be held in tho first week of September. As the inspector strongly recommended (hat there should be, tooth-brush drill daily in the school wo have, made a. beginning, and nearly 75 per cent, of tho children are taking it. The purchase of the mouth wash is noW_ the chief difficulty, and perhaps the committee might help in this direction, and the secretary of tho school would he glad to receive any donation for this purpose, It war, resolved to celebrate Arbour Day on Wednesday, August 25th, when it is proposed to plant shrubs, etc., along the creek running through the school grounds. Any donation of flax roots, toi toi, or cabbage trees or other native trees would also bo very acceptable for planting on this day as it is intended to make ibis a thickly planted shrubbery in tho grounds. At present it is a wet hollow of no value its a, playground. A further piece of concreting is to be undertaken also—this will complete tho connoting of the whole building frontage and greatly add to tho general appearance of (he school.
