BROKEN HILL STRIKE.
REPORT ON MINERS’ DISEASES. Received Julv 13. 9.40 a.m. SYDNEY, July 13. An interim report on Broken Hill miners’ disease recommends compensation and assistance for tubercular workers, and states that the majority of the Broken Hill minors show no signs of dust in their respiratory organs. The report, expiesscs tiio> opinion that mining can bo continued with complete safety so far as injury to the lungs is concerned. The compulsory conference respecting the. The Broken THU Commission recommends that in future all persons seeking employment in the mines should ho medically examined, and none suffering from tubciculosis or allied diseases be allow cd to work, either underground or on the surface, nil workers to bo periodically, examined. With these precautions the workers’ safety would bo ensured. The Commission also examined a number of oases of suspected lead poisoning. Of seventy-seven examined ir, was found about fifty per cent, were affected by disease, but a complete investigation could not bo undertaken. Plie investigation for hookworm failed to discover a single, case. —(Press Association).
