‘The mqnihly mooting of the above Council was hold at Levin on Saturday. Present: Crs G. A. Monk (chairman), J. R. Whyte, 11. Barber, F. J. Ryder, F. Coley, W. J. Bryant, S. A. Broadbelt, and C. 1. llarkness. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows; From Public Works Department, asking that applications' for loans for road or bridge construction be made not later than Juno Bth. —Attended to. From Minister of Internal Affairs, stating that owing to .the shortage of. paper it would be necessary to discontinue the free copy of the N.Z. Gazette.—Received.

From L. Bilks (Public Works Department), stating that lie was sorry to have missed the conference of local bodies, held at Levin on April 24th, but would be pleased to attend at the next conference. -Left to the committee to deal with. From Bay of Islands County Council, askieg to bo supported in a proposal to iuivo introduced legislation giving local bodies full power to enforce payment of rote's by Maoris, or providing for payment of Native tales by the general Governnit'iit. —To be supported. From W. H. Field, M.P., in reference to the hydro-electric scheme, and stating that on a population bnsis the power of 24,000 horse would bo distributed as follows : Wellington city, population. 84,049, horse power, 12,000; llutt Vallev, 20,756 3000; Otaki substation, 8331—12C0; Shannon sub-station, 18,725—2600; Bunnythorpe sub-station, 27.080-3500; Dannevirke sub-station, 10,591—1400; totals, 169.532-24,000. lie thought the Council could consider whether or not the population basis was a fair one, and if not, what alternative would the Council suggest. — The cbaiiman moved it be referred to the committee appointed.—Agreed to. From W. 11. Field, M.P., stating that he had written to iiie Prime Minister strongly urging the ehiims of this district for the establishment of the proposed agricultural college at Weraroa instead of in Ilawke's Bay.—The- chairman considered the letter should be supported, the district is central and.the situation ideal. If erected at Ilawke's Bay most of the money would go in thp purchase of land. G'rs Broadbclt and | Harknew agreed, tho latter considering Air Field had made out a very good case. From Alfred Soil'ert, (Palmcrston North); stating that he bad received a letter from the Shannon Borough Council asking for a contribution of £ls towards the maintenance of their roads. He had replied that, he paid a. largo rate to the Horowltonua, Council, and that he thought: tho Council should contribute to the Shannon Council, lie only used a short length of road considering the large amount paid in rates.—Letter received. From W. Bock (Foxton), stating that according to reports arrangements were being mndn (o clear 30 chains of the Foxfon-Kopntaroa drain, and in view of tin's he asked for relief as far as Newman's drain was concerned. —Left to C'r Broadbelt. , .

The contractors for cleaning tho Koputaroa drain bad finished their job satisfactorily. The bridge at Beach road had collapsed under metal carls, but had been patched up. It would, however, soon need replacing. The footpath formation in the village was finished, but the grader was necessary on the Hcathcrloa, Tavistock, and KoputaroaFoxton roads.
