A dramatic confession was made to a police constable by a dying child in Grimsby Hospital. Florence. Winch, 13 years old, was found running down the street with her clothing a mass of flames. Neighbours rushed to her aid, anda labourer put out the fire and applied first aid before the child was taken to Grimsby Hospital. Here she made the following statement to a police constable:— "This evening I took two bottles belonging to my father and exchanged them for sweets.

"My mother got on to me, and told ma to go to bed. I took my boots off and put my pinafore in the fire to set fire to myself." • - "The child died. Her story about the bottles was confirmed by the distracted mother, who said she rebuked her daughter, sent-, her to bed, and then went out shopping. She knew no more till told the child was in hospital.
