SLANDERED SWEETHEART.
An open, verdict of found drowned was returned at the inquest at Newport, Monmouthshire, on William Percy James, a clerk whose body was recovered trom a pond! A dead dog was clinging to one 8 Relatives slated that, tho body of James' -wcelheart, Miss Lilian Torrington, had been taken-from the river a few weeks previously. James, walked miles in search of her when she was missing, and her death proved on his mind. Cruel and baseless slanders regarding hei were spread, said the coroner. These .so affected James that he did not bko walking U The'man's grief, remarked the coroner, ! was intensified by cruel slanders.
