Tho Rev W. Raine, vicar of Foxton, has been appointed in charge of the parish of Martinborough, and will take up his duties there .shortly: A. ix)iidon cablegram says it is expected that Mr Watt will return to Australia as soon us shipping accommodation is obtainable. - In-succession to Mr G. B. Dall, who has retired, 'Mr George MacNumara, acting-CKief-Insprotor of Post Offices, has been appointed Second Assistant-Secretary ot the Post and Telegraph Department. Among tho appointments of teachers confirmed by the Wanganui Board of Education at its meeting this week were those of Miss K. L. Tarrant as assistant at lintea and Mr L. F. Binns as solo teacher at Taikorea, General regret will bo felt in Palmerston North that Mr M. J. .Kennedy, manager of tho municipal gasworks, has r< signed that position to take up the office of. secretary for the Wellington Gas Company. Mr Kennedy has been associated with the local gasworks for the past 22 years having joined the former Palmerston North Gas Company as manager and secretary, and continuing as manager when tho borough took over the works, in 1915.
Referring to tho death of Mr David J Nathan, a director of the Bank of. New Zealand, Mr Harold Beaucltamp (chairman of directors) at the annual meeting of shareholders of the bank to-day said:— It is with great regret that we have to record Mr Nathan's sudden deatli on 20th March. Ho had bcui a member of the Board for three terms of two years each. His wide experience and business knowledge made him a most useful director, and his valuable counsel was always made freely available to..his ■colleague? in their deliberations. The appointment of Mr Arthur M. Mowlenvof Auckland, to the Magistracy was announced vosterdav by the Minister of Justice. Mr Mow lcm has for some time past been in practice in Auckland, as a barrister and solicitor in conjunction with his partner, Mr Neumogan, and has had a lengthy experience both in Supreme and Magistrate Courts' work. In all probability ht will be stationed i« the South Island. Mr Mowlem was born in Palmerston North, njid is a. son of Mr Fred. Mowlem of this town. Ho was educated at the Campbell Street School, mid later, won I to Mr K. Wilson's Collegiato High School. He remained in.-Palmerston North only! a short time after completing'his education, proceeding to Auckland, where he was for some time in partnership with the late Mr F. Baume, M.P. < After this •lie entered business on his own account in Palmerston North, and subsequently removed to Auckland, where ho became widely known and respected in lis profession. ■
