ENGINE-DRIVERS' STRIKE
MELBOURNE'S SERIOUS PREDICA'MENT. , MELBOURNE, June 13. The city is now facing the dismal prospect of being without gas, electric light and trame as the engine drivers definitely decided to cease work at midnight on Saturday. If any attempt is made to bring coal overland to supply non-unionist workers at the gasworks, the railway _ workers threaten to strike.—(Press Association). SYDNEY, June 13. The secretary of the Engine Drivers' Union states that, although the men have similar grievances to the Melbourne strikers, there will bo no trouble in Sydney until after the departure of the Prince (Press Association).
NO SATURDAY WORK. SYDNEY, June 13. The iron trades employees, by a four to ono majority, have decided in favour of no Saturday work.—(Press Association). UNREST IN ENGINEERING TRADES. Received Juno 14, 9.35 a.m. LONDON, Juno 13. The National News states that a private meeting of the empbycrs in the engineering trades held at Edinburgh, decided to resist all demands for further increases in wages and to close down all works, creating a. gigantic lock-out, unless the latest demands aro withdrawn.—(A. and N.Z. cable).
