today being the 80th anniversary of the birthday of Wellington, a general holiday is being observed throughout the province, radically al! tho business premises in t alincrston North are closed, and as the day turned out beautifully fine, the many holiday attractions are being extensively patronised. Tho races at Foxton proved an attraction for a large number of people, while the motor cycle sports on the Awapum racecourse are well patronised. A mrge number of picnics are being held today, including St. Andrew's Bible Class outing at the Gorge, the Methodist Sunday schools and St. David's Church picnics at Ashhurst, and the Salvation Army picnic at UUnnythorpe. In the town' a cricket match between Manawatu and Horowhenua is being played on the Sports ground, the Palmerston North Bowling Club is holding a pairs tournament on its greens in Lombard street, while a tennis tournament under the auspices of the Palmerston North Lawn I emus Club is taking place on the lawns in Linton street. In addition the Foxton banch is being well patronised by holidaymakers:, while many private parties are spending the day at the Esplanade and "tlier places in close proximity to the town
