SPORTING.

MANAWATU RACING CLUB. A meeting of the committee of the Manawatu Racing Club was held last night, Mr J. 11. P. Strang (president) being in she chair. A vote of condolence was accorded to Mill. Gillies, a member of the committee, whose son was recently killed in a motor oycle accident. Votes of sympathy were passed to Messrs S. R. Lancaster and E. Wood, members oi the committee, in their illness. A letter was received from the Hospital Board, regarding the attendance of the motor ambulance at race meetings, and it was agreed to pay the increased amount asked, namely 30s. per day, notwithstanding the agreement previously made when Unoriginal horse ambulance was purchased (which was subsequently sold and the prej sent motor ambulance purchased) and for i which a large proportion of the cost was provided by the Club—that the ambulance would attend race meetings free of charge. A letter was received from a member ot the Club suggesting that a track be provided 20 yards inside the rails, and that an elee trie motor ear be obtained so that tie stipendiary stewards could follow the hors s and watch their p rformances. The matter ■will be considered by the ground committee. A report was received from the ground committee regarding improvements necessary before the autumn meeting. It was decided to carry out a scheme to complete the increased lavatory accommodation, and also the erection of a semaphore outside the course proper. ■ A sub-committee of the ground committee was appointed to draw up a scheme_ for improved road accommodation to obviate the. congestion that takes place at the entrance to the course, and to carry out further necessary and urgent improvements if possible before the autumn meeting. Accounts were passed for payment totalling £22,602 19s lOd. which includes £7200 for stakes at the recent meeting. CRENIDES AND NEGLIGE AT SYDNEY.
