ASHHURST, (Fno.M Oue Own Correspondent.) During last year (hero wore sixteen marriages and six deaths. Of the deaths the combined ages of the last two totalled one hundred and seventy-two years. A poll of ratepayers is to be taken at r.n early date to raise a loan'of £2500 for Uic electric lighting of the Borough in accordance with the report of the Borough Engineer, Mr R. Edwards.

Several small repairs are to be done at the foreman's cottage. Rubbish baskets are to be placed in from ol Post Office and local picture theatre. The police are endeavouring :<• trace the person who wilfully broke into the pavilion on the recreation grounds and damaged the place to the extent of 30s.

The Soldiers' Club is now readv for the opening ceremony, which will take place within a few davs.

The ftrst cup match in the Iloiowhenua Cricket Association took place in Levin t-n Saturday. The Shannon team easily defeated the Levin team bv 145 runs to 67. Berquist 32, Merwood 28, Newth 20. and Ffemin'gson 20, were the most prominent batsmen, while Randall six wickets and Nowtli and llemingson two each were the Shannon bowlers. The Rev. Harris 30, was the only Levin batsman to reach double figures.'
