A meeting of the public and patriotic committee was held in the library on Friday evening. Mesdames Hopkirk, Shaw, Baldwin, Williamson, Miss Sixtus and Messrs Vincent (chairman), Times, Robson. Burton, and Humphrey being present. KELVIN GROVE. (From. Our Own Correspondent.) The Kelvin Grove Hall Society held their usual fortnightly dance on Friday last. The extra, attraction was the waltzing competition, which was won by Miss Lorimor and Mr M. Humphrey, with Miss Turley and Mr Armstrong in second place. The judges were Messrs M. Rosanoski and J. Jensen. Extras were played by Miss Steer and Mr J. Jensen. * FITZHERBERT. (From Our Own Correspondent.) One of the largest gatherings that has taken place hern for some time was that which was held in the local hall last Friday week, when the whole district turned out to do honour to another batch of local boys who have lately returned from active service abroad. As is usual on such occasion* the whole proceedings were marked

Blackburne and Mr Ivvle also addressed the gathering and each soldier was presented with ii gold sovereign ease, suitably inscribed, as a token of esteem and appreciation from the residents ot Aokautere. BUNNYTHORPE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) At tin l last meetinEf of the Patriotic Committee it was decided to tender a welcome homo on October 30 to Spt. G. J. Print and Pre. F. Larson. As there will then ho only one Bunnythorp'c boy to return home, the committee are making arrangements to have a final function to which all the boys will be invited, and it is intended to make a presentation to each of them as a memento of the part they have taken in fighting for their country. An accident which might easily have had a fatal termination befel Mr F. McKcnzic during the week. While working a Cambridge roller the horses began to back, and being caught by the implement Mr! Mi Kenzic was pinned underneath it. Mis call for assistance was heard by .-Messrs Argyle and Jcpson, who extricated him from his perilous position as quickly as pes'sible. Mr McKcnzio had his legs and body badly bruised, but we are pleased to say tin' injuries are not of a serious nature, and ho is progressing favourably. The first meeting, of the newly-elected Domain Board was held on October 10. Present—Messrs G. H. .Espiner (chairman), G. M. Ransom, C. Anderson, J. Scheldt, A. A. llawke and W. B. Duthie. The

POHANGINA. (From Onn Own Correspondent.) Tito Pohangina Council lias decided to build n number of cottages for their roadmen, and the work of erecting the lirst of tlieic buildings will be put in hand shortly. To lessen the cost as much as possible the Council is arra'njr'ing to obtain the timber direct from th mills, In order to prevent unnecessary delay in building operations the Council at its last meeting instructed the engineer to take steps to have the section on which the cottage is to bo built surveyed immediately.
