liS Itu»aell Melbourne, 19th August, 1919. Messrs Nonpareil Motor 00., |ri Coleman Place, jj Palmerston North. f, Dear [• On Saturday last the Victorian Mo- ! tor Cycle Club hold tho most remark- I able trial yet run in Australia. It wae an Elimination Contest be- \ tween fifteen riders, all on 7 b.p. 3ido- >., car Outfite (seven of which were IN- , DIANS), who tied for the Australian 'Motor Cycle Cup and Boomerang Teams' Cup in the previous Saturday's Twenty-four Hours' Trial, in which Victoria's fifty best rulers started, representing all tho world's best machines. The Eliminating Contest was run around the Wildwood Course, £0 miles per lap of very rough, twisty, and exceptionally hilly country. Tho speed average set was 30 m-p.b., day and night, and the competitors muet continuo indefinitely (with stops only for! meals and filling up) until a winner was hj •found. There were four controls arour.d the course, and each competitor had to check in to the minute everywhere. Owing to the severity of tho course and speeds, no one expected the contest to last more than three to four lapu. During the first four laps all opposition machines except one had dropped!' out, and that was eliminated in tho l fifth lap (at 9.30 p.m.). Five INDIANS j were still running. By 4.50 a.m. on the tenth lap there. were still two IN- j DIANS running dead on time, and in j perfect condition. I By this time two controls bad vacated, and the officials decided to call; the riders off,_making it a tie between ! the two remaining riders. . These two j men had each covered SCO miles in: twelve hours' riding time, had checked in everywhere to the minute, most of; it don« at night, and their machines' finished as sound as they started. | Thus INDIANS won Ist, 2nd, 3rd, : 4th'and sth places, the A.M.C. 24 Hours' Cup, the Boomerang Cup, covered a total of 1520 miles, as compared with a total of 040 miles covered by all. the. other combined makes of machines, i and for tho first time in the history of. the V.M.C.O. tho machines and riders outlasted the endurance of the control officials. We can say without hesitation that this Contest, which resolved itself into a test to the finish, has been too bif "est ' "boost" the INDIAN has ever had in j this part of the world. The numbers of machines starting, with all good experienced riders, gave- : the first opportunity we have had of' proving which machine, under (strenuous conditions, will really "bang out" | the longest. Believing this will be of considerable j interest to you, Youth faithfully, RHODES MOTOR CYCLE COMPANY, j PTY., LTD. I (S«d) J. H. RHODES, Man SEinK pirnotnr.
