T TRmWT.TWPI* t s » .iwpV ifV iJiu L) <j TITE WHITE HOUSE. The Square, PALMERSTON NORTH. 113 Russell street, Melbourne. ID Ui August. I DID. Tie,ssrs Nonpareil Motor Co., Coleman Place, Palmerston North. Dear Sirs,— On Saturday last the Victorian .Mold!' Cycle Club held the most remarkable trial yet run in Australia. it was an Elimination Contest between iiltoen riders, all on 7 li.]>. Sidecar Outfits (seven of which were INDIANS). who tied tor the Australian .Motor Cycle Cup and Roomerang Teams’ Cup in the previous Saturday’s Twenty-four Hours’ Trial, in which Victoria’s fifty best riders started, representing all the world’s best machines. The Eliminating Contest was run around the Wildwood Course, TO miles per lap of very rough, twisty, and exceptionally hilly country. The speed average set was 30 m.p.h., day and night, and the competitors must continue indefinitely (with stops only for meals and filling up) until a winner was found. There wore four controls around

the course, ami each competitor had to check in to the minute everywhere. Owing to the severity of the course I and speeds, no one expected the contest to last more than three to tour laps. During the first four laps all opposition machines except one had dropped out, and that was eliminated in the filth lap (at 9.30 ]). m.). Five INDIANS were still running. By 4.30 a.in. on Die tenth lap there were still two INDIANS running dead on time, and in perfect condition. By this time two controls had vacated, and the officials decided to call the riders off, making it a tie between flic two remaining riders. Those, two men had each covered 3GO miles in twelve hours’ riding time, had checked in everywhere to the minute, most of it dom 1 at night, and their machines finished as sound as they started.

Mms INDIAN'S won Ist, 2nd. Aid. ■lill and sth places, tlio A..M.C. 24 I lours’ Cnp, tiie Boomerang Cup, covered a total of 1520 miles, as compared v.’itli a total ol G-l0 miles covered by ail Hie other combined makes of machines, and lor the first time in the history of the V.Af.C.C. the machines and riders outlasted the endurance of the control ollicials. We can say without hesitation that this Contest, which resolved itself into a test to the finish, has been the biggest “boost” the INDIAN has ever had in this part of the world. The numbers of machines starting, with all good experienced riders, gave the first opportunity we have had of proving which machine, under strenuous conditions, will really “hang out” the longest. Believing this will be of considerable interest to you. Yours faithfully, RHODES MOTOR CYCLE COMPANY, RTY.,. ETD. (Sgd) J, 11. RHODES,
