RETURNING TROOPS.
ARRIVAL OF CORINTHIC. (Peb Peess AssociationJ CHRISTCHURCH, April 22. Tlio transport Corinthio arrived in Lyttel-\ ton harbour at 6 a.m. to-day. She* has a draft of over 1000 troops on board, also 42 women and 18 children. Of the troops, 938 aro for Canterbury, 27 for Nelson and Picton, .40 for tho West Coast, an.d 436 for Otago. The Corinthio, which is a clean ship, will be berthed at 6 a.m. to-morrow. A special train leaves for Invercargill at 8 a.m. with the southern men.
CHRISTCHURCH, April 22 Tho Corinthic was found to have on board 15 oases of mumps and one cot case, after inspection of tho ship had been carried out. Dr Chesson, chief health officer, said the Corinthic would bo placed in quarantine for 24 hours. There wore one or two little matters he wished to consult his head office in Wellington about, but personally ho was satisfied and ho thought tho vessel oould berth to-morrow at 6 a.m. The cases of mumps are to bo taken to Christchurch hospital. The Corinthic had an uneventful trip, and there was very little sickness aboard. Tho passage was smooth until a week ago, when fairly heavy weather was encountered. Many of tho men showed a keen interest in tho’ educational classes, particularly in shorthand Tho men speak most enthusiastically of tho warmheartedness of tho residents of Colon. A small paper, tho Corinthiov Mail; was published five times during tho voyage.
