(From Omi Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, Nov. 21. Two deaths from influenza, occurred at Waikanao to-day, Mr Mali Thomas a. wellknown native, and his grandfather, Mr Ropatu, both succumbing after a few days’ illness. The former was making good progress, but caught a chill, which caused a relapse. A native named Rangi died at Parapar a urn u yesterday. The' death occurred this rnornong of Mr Is. Granlield, son of Mr Granficld, a wellknown painter of this district. Deceased was recently invalided homo from the front, suffering’ from an internal trouble. Much sympathy is expressed for his bereaved relatives. The condition of Mr F. Horton Bright is again causing his relatives grave concern, ho having suffered a severe set-back. The sea-side resort at Otaki, erected to the order of Mr Byron Brown promises to be very popular, and booking for accommodation has been far from lacking. Since advertising in tho “Standard” Mr Brown lias received many applications for rooms, and it now appears as if Otaki is to be made a popular resort for Palmerstonians. The buildings, despite several drawbacks, are nearly completed, Tho Otaki Town Board office is the busiest place in the town, the clerk being appointed to servo out disinfectants and medicine. Applications arc numerous, and tho clerk, who is now nearly three score and ten, feels the extra burden. Shortly ho will bo called upon to serve out whisky for medicinal purposes. The influenza epidemic is certainly on the wane, and no fresh cases were reported today. There are, however, one or two serious cases In the hospital.
