THE FLANDERS STRUGGLE.
ENEMY ATTACKS HELD. HAIG DEPORTS ALL ATTACKS REPULSED. Australian-New Zealand Cable Association. LONDON, April 29. Sir Douglas Haig reports: Following the intense bombardment, strong enemy forces violently attacked the French anil British positions from the neighbourhood of Metereu to Zqllebcke. The enemy also attacked the Belgians north of Ypres. The severest, fighting developed on the whole Allied front. The 25th, 49th and 21st British Divisions completely repulsed all attempts to enter their positions, despite a constant succession of determined attacks in great strength, maintaining their line intact. The enemy’s losses were- very heavy. The French repulsed heavy attacks on the hills alxuit Scherpcnberg and Mont Rouge. At points when; the enemy penetrated a short distance, they were quickly driven out and the greater part of the ground regained by counter-attack.-. The Belgians repulsed ail attacks aftei sharp fighting, inflicting severe casualties. The fighting is continuing at certain points along the Allied battle front. Owing to bad weather, the aeroplanes dropped only a few bombs on various targets.
YPRES FRONT READJUSTED. (United Service.) LONDON. April 30. _ Apparently a readjustment, of the British position has been effected eastward oi Ypres. Paris military exports state that the enemy are now two miles east and two miles south of Ypres. The front now runs from Lungemarck along the western hank of the Stecnbcek and via Verlorenhoek, lloogc and Zillebecke to Yoorinezecle,
