BUILDING COMMITTEE'S POWERS.

THE NEW HOSPITAL SCHEME

At tliis morning's mooting of tho Palmcralon North Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, tho chairman (Sir James Wilson) reierred to tho heavy duties devolving on tho Building .Committee,- and said that tho, committee should have full power to carry out the arrangements in regard to the work. It could report from time to time to tho Board, and keep other members informed of the progress of the scheme. This was .supported by Mr J. A. Nash,. who said there wore seven mombcrs of tho Board on tho committee, ami they had to deal with the Minister, in.s)sectors, and architects, and to a certain extont wanted a free hand. .Mr J. \V. BrainwoH spoke similarly, and supported tho remarks made. Mrs Gill: Is tho. maternity home to be. left out of the. matter?

The chairman : Oh, yes, Thi) Board then wont into committee, on the building scheme at 11.30, and resumed in open committee about 12.45, when tho following motions wore decided upon:—(1) That a deputation from the Building Committee wait upon the Minister and urge that he give consent to the erection of tho buildings, as sof. out in tho scheme of the* Board; (2) that the Minister nl<o bo urged to include in tho scheme tbo proposed maternity ward.

It wa s decided that the deputation consist of the chairman, Dr. Whitaker, and Messrs J. A. Nash, and J. K. Ilomblow.
